Gondar, or Gonder, is a city in northern Ethiopia. It’s known for the walled Fasil Ghebbi fortress and palace compound, once the seat of Ethiopian emperors. Dominating it is the immense 17th-century castle of Emperor Fasilides, which combines Portuguese, Indian and local architectural styles.

Schedule Details

Day 1: Addis Ababa - Lalibela
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Lalibela, famous for its rock-hewn churches dating back 800 years. This is the most important stop on the historical route and from the air the 11 churches, carved into the rugged mountainside, present an awesome spectacle. Afternoon excursion to the most spectacular churches.
Day 2: Lalibela -Gonder
In the morning Transfer to the airport for your flight to Gondar. In the afternoon a city tour of Gondar including a visit to the Royal Compound, where enchanting 17th century castles stand. Also, visit DebreBerhan Selassie Church meaning Trinity at the Mount of Light.
Day 3: Bahirdar - Addis Ababa
In the morning drive to Bahir Dar on Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. The afternoon is spent visiting isolated monasteries by boat. There is good birding in the lush forest surrounding much of the lake. Then drive to the thundering Blue Nile Falls. Along the walk to the falls, birding is excellent. Evening fly back to Addis.
